It is inevitable to lie about your feelings as you grow older.
A year ago, my tito got married. He came from the states and brought along with him his friends. one of which was shay (for seamus) and jay (for. .. uh. jason? sorry jay forgot! HAHA!). So Shay is a half irish and half Iranian? but lives in california while Jay's canadian. I don't really remember which of the two said we could really speak real good english. At first ... ok wow thanks. it honestly sounds like a compliment. don't you think so? then an afterthough hits you right in your face... HEY! doesn't mean that we're in a third world country, doesn't mean everyone speaks like Janina san Miguel (no offense). If you must know, English has become our 2nd language and not just another foreign language.
I remember someone told me today that in other countries that doesn't really speak english, don't make english and grammar a must in their education (although actually it is because it is the universal language. how do you expect to communicate??). You know, our country has the most potential to be like america in other aspects (not really on values, I still believe we have the best values and respect for elders). look at it this way, We have the potential to become businessmen from the resources available for us such as agricultural products or from the mining and what not. The problem now lies (as I believe) are in the education presented to us. Our school might have been the level 3 PAASCU accreditation but that's merely a paper signed by some officials who think they can control everything! The problem is (for example) a lot of the students in my class can speak english with the proper anunciation and correct grammar(althought sometimes we can't help the fact we make mistakes) better than english teachers in other schools or maybe in our school (ofcourse I can't say that for a fact). our education must toughen up or else. out of the hundreds of topics we are taught in a day, how many of that can you truly say you can remember everything and can re-teach it to other students. My point is we need proper motivation and well ...proper education. It is a fact that Only 7% show mastery of the English language, 2% in Science, and 16% in Math by the time they graduate their senior year.
I guess this is why I really want to become a teacher. (so kung history lang!) it all starts with the kids. THEY ARE THE FUTURE. I know I can do something about it. I know I can change these Filipinos to become a better citizen, to FORMULATE THEIR OWN OPINIONS OF MATTERS OF CONSEQUENCE AND NOT BELIEVE IN OPINIONS OF PEOPLE IN POWER (e.g. school, parents and what not)
